David MacDonald, CEO and owner of Cullen Packaging, has been recognized as one of Britain’s ‘Top 50 most Ambitious Business Leaders for 2023’. His company’s patented ‘Fibre Bottle’ innovation, along with impressive growth and a £15m investment, have secured his place on this year’s prestigious list created by LDC, a division of Lloyds Banking Group, in collaboration with The Times.

The LDC Top 50 celebrates business leaders who strive for growth and success in their ventures. The nominations this year were of exceptional quality, reflecting the drive and determination shared by business leaders across the UK.

MacDonald’s inclusion on the highly competitive list is a testament to his significant contribution to the sustainable packaging movement. Leading a team committed to replacing single-use plastic packaging, he has spearheaded the development of real-world solutions. Notably, his Glasgow-based manufacturing facility can produce 270 million units per year of The Fibre Bottle, an innovative plastic bottle alternative made from natural, renewable materials. MacDonald’s firm is the sole European provider capable of replacing most plastic packaging with a molded fiber alternative within just one month. Having produced over 1.2 billion plastic-free products in the past 18 months, his commitment to sustainability is unwavering.
