Durham Box, a leading manufacturer in corrugated packaging, has collaborated with its long-standing partner, Ringtons, to create a premium, laser-detailed seasonal gift box. This innovative design exemplifies how digital printing and advanced laser die-cutting enhance food and drink packaging, particularly for retail.

Commissioned for Ringtons’ 2025 Christmas gifting range, the one-piece box with lid (300 × 200 × 80 mm) boasts a clay-coated outer liner paired with a white kraft inner liner. It is digitally printed on both sides, delivering a vibrant, full-colour impact both inside and out. Notably, intricate laser-cutting reveals print beneath the surface, resulting in a tactile and visually striking finish, which is unattainable with conventional die-cutting methods.

“We really wanted to focus on the uniqueness of the pack itself, and the laser detailing achieves something that couldn’t have been done using a standard die-cutter,” stated Sally Caton, business development manager at Durham Box. “It gives the pack a clear point of difference and opens up exciting creative possibilities for gifting.”

For this project, Durham Box manufactured 15,000 units, continuing a successful partnership with Ringtons that has flourished for over a decade. Both companies, united as family-owned businesses in the North East, share a strong commitment to quality and service, further strengthening their collaboration.

Serena Philipson, head of product at Ringtons, remarked, “This pack has been a real hero for our festive range, with the laser-cut detailing adding a premium, precision finish that transforms what would otherwise be a standard gift box. Introducing laser technology required close collaboration, particularly around achieving perfect colour alignment beneath the detailed cut areas, but the outcome has been worth the focus.”

With robust commercial success already noted, Ringtons aims to expand laser-cut presentation packaging for future launches, particularly in the realm of sustainable packaging for food and drink products.

“We’re now exploring further laser-cut formats for a major gifting occasion early next year,” Philipson added. “The positive reaction from both our sales team and customers has already translated into increased orders.”
