Coveris, a leading European packaging manufacturer, has expanded its covert security solutions to include printed cartons, addressing the growing concerns of theft in the fresh meat, beverage, and luxury goods industries.
In response to the significant retail theft rates in the UK, which cost approximately £1.8 billion annually, Coveris has launched its innovative SourceTag cartons. This initiative enhances their existing label-tag product line. These fully automated, integrated security cartons are designed to work in harmony with in-store electronic article surveillance (EAS) antenna systems, serving as both an anti-theft measure and a deterrent for high-value fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG).
Unlike earlier methods that required manual application of secondary tags in-store—adding complexity and costs—Coveris’ new SourceTag cartons incorporate a covert RF (radio frequency) tag within the carton during the printing and conversion processes. Bolstered by recent investments in inline tagging technology, these composite security cartons offer a seamless, covert solution that enhances the integrity of brands while significantly improving supply chain efficiencies, reducing shrinkage, and lowering costs.
Nigel Hewitt, Sales Director of Coveris Paper Business Unit, remarked on the introduction of these new packs: “We’re thrilled to introduce a first-to-market, scalable security solution for board. Delivering huge benefits at source and in-store, this innovation not only safeguards profits and the supply chain but also enhances shopworker safety by deterring theft, abuse, and violent behaviour.”
