Leading packaging manufacturer Coveris introduces its brand-new Notpla takeaway cardboard boxes, showcasing them on a global stage at the Erste Bank Open ATP 500 tennis competition in Vienna, Austria, later this month.

Collaborating with Notpla, a producer of advanced, environmentally friendly packaging solutions, Coveris acts as a print and packaging partner for their food-contact approved takeaway packaging. The takeaway boxes feature Notpla’s award-winning barrier coating made from seaweed and plant extracts as an eco-friendly alternative to plastic. Certified sustainably sourced board is used, offering water and grease resistance. The recyclable boxes also feature a coating that naturally breaks down in 4-6 weeks at the end of life if placed in alternative waste streams.

Coveris’ sustainability strategy, known as ‘No Waste,’ was launched by its leadership team in Vienna, Austria. By developing Notpla-coated food takeaway boxes for a sporting event in the same city, Coveris aligns with its No Waste vision, emphasizing its commitment to minimizing waste.

The Vienna Open ATP 500 tennis competition, sponsored by Erste Bank, is scheduled to take place from 23 – 29 October 2023. In collaboration with online food order and delivery brand Lieferando, which is part of Just Eat Takeaway.com, Notpla boxes will be made available for all seat-delivery and pick-up food services offered during this week-long event through the Lieferando App.

Through its partnership with Just Eat Takeaway.com, Notpla’s boxes have already made their mark at major sporting events such as the Women’s Euro 2022 final held at Wembley Stadium in the UK and the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul.

Pierre Paslier, co-founder and co-CEO of Notpla, expresses his delight in working alongside Coveris to accelerate their mission of making packaging disappear. Providing plastic-free takeaway boxes at the Erste Bank Vienna Open ATP tennis competition is a significant achievement for the company as it enhances sustainability for both spectators and vendors.

Paul Robertson, Coveris’ Food-on-the-Move Sales Director, shares his pride in the ongoing partnership with Notpla as their print and packaging partner for takeaway boxes. With aligned sustainability goals, this collaboration supports Coveris’ vision of No Waste and addresses packaging waste challenges in the food-to-go and foodservice sectors.

Introducing Notpla-coated boxes, manufactured by Coveris, at a major sporting event like the Erste Bank Vienna Open ATP tennis competition provides an excellent opportunity to engage new audiences and showcase the packaging industry’s achievements.

Notpla has received global and industry recognition for its advancements in packaging sustainability, utilizing seaweed-based materials, including:
