Amcor, a prominent force in the development of sustainable packaging solutions, has announced the introduction of its innovative AmPrima® Flowpack Pro for bakery products. This cutting-edge, mono-material packaging solution is designed to be recycle-ready, addressing the bakery sector’s previous dependency on non-recyclable options. Importantly, it marks the first flexible packaging solution available for flatbread that is recycle-ready and free from EVOH and PVDC.
By utilizing the AmPrima® Flowpack Pro, bakery brands can advance towards their sustainability targets. This solution achieves an impressive reduction of up to 82%* in the carbon footprint of the packaging compared to conventional options. Additionally, it offers a potential reduction of up to 77%* in non-renewable energy consumption and up to 89%* in water usage.
Traditionally, the bakery industry has relied on non-recyclable materials with coatings like PVDC to provide the necessary oxygen barrier for product storage. The AmPrima® Flowpack Pro from Amcor allows bakery brands to maintain exceptional sealing and barrier characteristics while embracing recycle-ready packaging that contributes positively to the circular economy. Furthermore, this lightweight design could assist brands in minimizing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees and potential plastic taxes.
This revolutionary packaging is ideal for applications in flatbreads and packed pastries. The AmPrima® Flowpack Pro was developed at the Amcor Flexibles facility in Ledbury, UK, which serves as a center of excellence for bakery packaging innovation.
“Bakery producers require packaging with specific properties to maintain product freshness and quality. With the evolution of our AmPrima® for bakery range, we are proud to launch the new recycle-ready FlowPack Pro solution for the bakery market,” stated Vitor Mota, Product Development Director, Amcor.
“We are committed to assisting bakery producers and retailers in achieving their sustainability goals while meeting growing consumer demands for more responsible packaging. This development is particularly exciting for Amcor as we continue our journey towards ensuring that all our packaging is recyclable or reusable by 2025,” he added.
This introduction forms part of the broader AmPrima® range of recycle-ready solutions. With its expansion into the bakery sector, Amcor remains dedicated to innovating food and drink packaging that strikes a balance between sustainability and performance.
