Amcor, a leading global innovator in responsible packaging solutions, has unveiled the European launch of Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouches designed for bulk foodservice products. This cutting-edge mono-material solution provides brands in the foodservice sector with flexible packaging that is readily recyclable in European countries where Polyethylene (PE) recycling streams are established.

The introduction of Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouches supports the foodservice industry’s shift towards more sustainable, flexible, and lightweight packaging formats. Notably, these pouches occupy significantly less storage space prior to filling than traditional canned packaging, and they are more space-efficient when filled.

Designed specifically for the needs of the foodservice sector, the Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouch is well-suited for packaging various bulk products, including dressings, sauces, frozen vegetables, and proteins.

In compliance with the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Liquiflex® AmPrima® boasts a lightweight structure and is recyclable, potentially resulting in savings on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees and Plastic Tax compared to heavier containers[1].

In fact, when compared to standard heavier packaging, Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouches can reduce carbon footprints by up to 79%, while also cutting non-renewable energy use by 75% and water consumption by 84%[2]. These significant reductions have been verified through Amcor’s ASSET life cycle assessment methodology, accredited by The Carbon Trust.

Starting in 2030, plastic packaging in the European Union will be mandated to include a minimum percentage of Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) content as per the new PPWR regulations. Notably, Amcor’s Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouches can accommodate food-contact compatible PCR content upon request[3].

Additionally, emerging regulations are encouraging the adoption of refillable condiment dispensers in restaurants and hospitality settings, replacing single-use plastic condiment sachets. Consequently, more foodservice operators will seek to implement pump dispensers for added convenience. The Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouch can easily be equipped with a pump or spout dispenser, transforming it into a functional refill pack.

Giorgio Dini, Marketing Manager, Culinary, Amcor Flexibles Europe, Middle East and Africa states: “The launch of Liquiflex® AmPrima® pouches in Europe – following a successful launch in North America – sets a new standard in foodservice packaging that is cost-effective and convenient. This marks an exciting milestone, not just for Amcor but for the wider culinary industry. Liquiflex® AmPrima® meets the technical needs of catering environments, with the advantage of recycle-readiness.”
