Alpla has developed a new innovative PET bottle that offers significant sustainability benefits for the food and beverage industry. The bottle is designed to weigh approximately an eighth of a glass bottle, reducing carbon footprint by up to 50% and allowing for price savings of up to 30%.
This innovative bottle can be made entirely of recycled PET (rPET) and is currently available in 0.75-litre and 1-litre sizes. It is already being used by the pilot customer and development partner, Wegenstein, in Austria.
Daniel Lehner, global sales director food & beverage at Alpla, highlights the advantages of PET as a packaging material. He emphasizes that PET is light, unbreakable, recyclable, and requires little energy for molding, making it an ideal sustainable packaging solution for winemakers looking to improve their environmental footprint and reduce costs.
Herbert Toifl, managing director of the Wegenstein winery, expresses satisfaction with the new PET bottle, stating that it has been perfectly tailored to their bottling and shipment processes. Collaboration with the Wegenstein team has significantly accelerated the market launch, ensuring that the PET bottle meets quality standards and is visually appealing, practical, and environmentally friendly.
The partnership between Alpla and Wegenstein aims to offer an innovative packaging solution to consumers who prioritize sustainability and climate consciousness. The new PET bottle is a testament to their commitment to environmental responsibility and enhancing the consumer experience.
