Alimentaria FoodTech, the premier trade fair focused on innovation, technology, and ingredients in the food sector, will take place from October 6 to 8, 2026, at the Gran Via venue in Fira de Barcelona. This event is set to gather nearly 400 exhibiting companies and brands alongside around 30 startups that specialize in groundbreaking solutions within the industry. Morocco will be featured as the guest country for this upcoming edition, reinforcing its status as a significant market for Spanish food products.

With a strong international and professional focus, Alimentaria FoodTech will showcase a comprehensive range of offerings that span all phases of the food production process, including production, processing, preservation, and distribution. The event serves as a vital platform for advancing the modernization of food technology, fostering knowledge exchange, and creating new business opportunities amid significant shifts in technology and market needs.

Among the participants are notable companies like MIMASA, Dordal, Handtmann, Weber, Vaessen Schoemaker, Hiperbaric, ULMA, Frontmatec, Tetra Pak, and many others. These firms will unveil their latest technological innovations and equipment tailored for the sector.

According to Albert Puxan, the president of Alimentaria FoodTech, “this new edition confirms the show as a strategic meeting point and reinforces its positioning as the business and innovation fair that covers the entire food industry chain.”

As a platform for showcasing shifts within food production, the event will highlight significant advancements in machinery, automation, and digitalization, which are crucial for developing more efficient, sustainable, and safer food processes. The fair will also introduce collaborative robotics solutions designed for safe interaction with human workers, enhancing both productivity and workplace conditions.

Demonstrating a commitment to food technology entrepreneurship, Alimentaria FoodTech will provide a dedicated area for nearly 30 startups, predominantly from Spain, presenting innovative solutions aimed at disrupting traditional practices. This initiative is supported by organizations like ICEX Spain Export and Investment, the Generalitat de Catalunya, KM ZERO, and previous winners of the FoodTech Emprende Award, all aimed at facilitating innovation and technology transfer.

Additionally, a notable segment of the event will be its ingredients area, featuring around forty exhibitors showcasing products and services that align with emerging market trends and stringent quality, sustainability, and safety standards.

On the international front, a significant goal of the event is to enhance global engagement. The upcoming edition is anticipated to welcome about 20% of exhibitors from approximately 15 countries, mainly in Europe, which are keen on acquiring equipment for food and beverage production and processing. Countries such as Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Turkey will be heavily represented, highlighting the fair’s global significance and its role in aiding the international expansion of Spanish companies.

Through the Hosted Buyers program and partnerships with organizations like ICEX, FIAB, and amec alimentec, the fair aims to bolster international business opportunities. This year, it plans to connect about 100 strategic buyers from over 25 countries, facilitating approximately 900 business meetings between these buyers and participating exhibitors.

Morocco will serve as the honored country at Alimentaria FoodTech 2026, in collaboration with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Casablanca. This initiative aims to strengthen commercial and technological ties between both markets. More than 20 buyers from Morocco, which stands out as a key market in the Maghreb, are expected to attend. The choice of Morocco underscores its increasing presence at the fair, where it ranked as the second non-European country with the most visitors in the last edition, along with its strategic importance to the Spanish food industry. Notably, Spain is Morocco’s leading trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding 22.5 billion euros annually, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise.

Finally, as an exciting addition to its established FoodTech Innova and FoodTech Emprende Awards, the event will introduce the FoodTech Award for Scientific Merit 2026, which will honor initiatives and experts who contribute advanced technologies or ingredients for food production, transformation, or preservation.
