The Compleat Food Group has appointed its first chief operating officer as the UK business seeks to support its growth strategy.

Following its expansion through mergers and acquisitions since its inception in 2021, The Compleat Food Group has elevated Brian Byrne to COO. He assumes this pivotal role as of today (1 May).

With over two decades of experience in global supply chain leadership, Byrne “will take overall accountability for the end-to-end supply chain, including planning, sourcing, manufacturing, and delivery,” according to the announcement.

CEO Nick Field commented, “Brian has already made a significant impact since joining us, and his promotion to chief operating officer is a natural next step as we evolve our business.”

He continued, “His expertise, leadership, and drive for excellence will be instrumental as we continue to build a supply chain that is agile, resilient, and designed for the future.”

The company’s portfolio, expanded through acquisitions, includes a variety of baked goods such as pies and quiches, alongside deli items like olives, antipasti, and pickles. Notable brands include Pork Farms, Wall’s Pastry, Squeaky Bean, Unearthed, and Vadasz.

The Compleat Food Group originated in 2021 when private-equity firm PAI Partners merged its UK portfolio companies Winterbotham Darby and Addo Food Group.

The first acquisition was pie maker Wrights Food Group in 2021. This business boasts an extensive portfolio, including pasties, sausage rolls, ready meals, and bakery items.

Following that, in 2023, the dairy-free cheese brand Palace Culture joined the group, introducing alternative cheese brands like Kimcheeze, The Mouldy Goaty, Sacre Blue, and Holy Smokes.

Subsequently, dips and party food specialists SK Foods and Zorba Foods became part of The Compleat Food Group portfolio in the last year. Additionally, Harvey & Brockless, known for its cheeses, charcuterie, olives, and other deli products, joined last year.

In March 2025, the group acquired The Real Yorkshire Pudding Co. for an undisclosed sum; however, it has also made redundancies at several UK factories this year.

Headquartered in Surrey, south of London, The Compleat Food Group employs over 5,500 personnel across 16 sites, generating an annual turnover exceeding £1 billion ($1.3 billion), as noted on the company’s LinkedIn page.

“I’m delighted to take on this new role and help shape the next phase of growth for The Compleat Food Group. We have an incredible team and a strong foundation to build upon,” Byrne stated.
