Currently, organic ingredients are included in 10% of all active products, marking the highest level the firm has recorded to date.

Growing Trend Towards Organic Ahead of Retail Developments

Point74 notes that the adoption trend has accelerated significantly over the past 12 to 24 months. For instance, one snacking producer has introduced nearly 50 organic-focused items in a two-year period. This increase aligns with broader industry trends. According to the Soil Association’s 2026 Market Report, the UK’s organic market expanded by 4.2% this year, reaching £3.9 billion. This growth marks the 14th year in succession, resulting in a doubling of market value over the last decade.

Understanding Product Development Timelines

The typical timeframe for developing food products spans one to two years. Consequently, organic ingredients included in current recipes are not expected to hit the market until 2027. Rob Sinclair, CEO of Point74, asserts that this trend is not merely a fleeting response but a calculated move by manufacturers who have strategically incorporated organic considerations into their workflows years prior.

Sinclair points out that organic elements are now embedded within recipe evaluations, ingredient suitability assessments, and submissions to retailers. “What we’re tracking now is what Britain’s food aisles will look like in 2027,” he explains.

Mainstream Producers Leading the Charge

Data from Point74 encompasses some of the UK’s most renowned manufacturers across categories such as meat, snacks, baked goods, and prepared foods. Notable clients include Morrisons, Ginsters, and Charlie Bigham’s. The company’s software oversees more than 50,000 ingredient specifications and facilitates the launch of over 4,000 products each year, granting an unmatched perspective on emerging formulation trends.

Organic Growth Amidst Stricter Compliance Regulations

Notably, the surge in the use of organic ingredients coincides with heightened compliance challenges. Recent regulations regarding country of origin, labeling for prepacked foods, and product claims have been instituted within the last two years. It is crucial to note that organic claims come with specific regulatory responsibilities. Mislabeling a product as “organic” without proper certification constitutes a violation of UK food labeling legislation.

In response, Point74 has partnered with compliance expert Quor, enabling manufacturers to fulfill organic certification requirements as they expand their organic offerings.

Will Organic Become Mainstream by 2027?

Given that development cycles are typically several years ahead of retail, data from Point74 indicates that organic ingredients are poised to become integral to a greater variety of mainstream products by 2027. This transition signifies that organic considerations are increasingly being integrated into product development as a standard practice rather than being treated as an additional feature or experimental approach.
