Spanish snacks producer Grupo Apex is expanding its position in Spain’s convenience and impulse channel through the acquisition of a regional distributor.

The company behind the Aspitos and Jumpers brands has acquired Zaragoza-based Industrias Marjo for an undisclosed amount.

Apex said in a statement that Industrias Marjo operates a sales and distribution network covering northern and central Spain.

The distributor handles around 4,000 product lines and supplies more than 12,000 points of sale, according to Apex.

“Bringing Marjo on board is a decisive step in our commitment to the impulse channel,” Apex CEO Santiago Sala said.

“It allows us to be closer to the point of sale, provide better service to our customers, and offer the market a more complete distribution solution – all while working hand-in-hand with our distributor network, which remains the cornerstone of our model.”

Grupo Apex is headquartered in Ribaforada, around 70 kilometres north of Zaragoza, and produces salty snacks, nuts and potato chips for the food and beverage market.

The manufacturer operates 18 facilities across Spain and employs more than 1,100 people directly. It generates annual sales of €180m ($200.6m) and exports its products to over 20 countries.

“Becoming part of Grupo Apex allows us to preserve everything that has brought us this far while taking a step forward: a wider product range, access to more channels and a promising future for our team,” Industrias Marjo CEO José Luis García said.
