Monbake, a leading bakery group based in Spain, has appointed former Reckitt director Borja Lomba Sorrondegui as its new CEO.

He succeeds Aurelio Antuna, who has successfully led Monbake since 2018. Antuna will now transition into the role of chairman of the company.

As one of Spain’s largest bakery groups, Monbake manufactures, markets, and distributes its products both domestically and internationally, serving over 30 countries.

Lomba brings over a decade of experience from Reckitt, where he held the position of director-general for Iberia.

In his statement, Lomba expressed, “I am joining Monbake with great enthusiasm and excitement, at a key moment for the company. Monbake has enormous growth potential, an exceptional team, and a firm commitment to quality and innovation. I face this challenge with determination and the goal of continuing to create long-term value for all our stakeholders.”

Private-equity firm CVC Capital Partners acquired Monbake last year, purchasing it from France-based investment company Ardian and its co-investors Alantra, Artá, and Landon.

Antuna stated, “In this new stage as chairman, my focus will be on strengthening institutional and corporate relations, maintaining direct and ongoing dialogue with the board of directors, as well as deepening the medium-term strategy and supporting key corporate operations.”

Over the past year, Monbake expanded its footprint by acquiring two Spanish bakeries: Galica-based IPASA and Murcia-based pizza-dough manufacturer La Nina del Sur.

With a workforce exceeding 2,000 employees, Monbake operates 10 factories and boasts more than 230 stores worldwide.
