This collaboration integrates Videojet’s industrial coding technology with Polytag’s content management system, enabling manufacturers to blend real-time variable data—like batch identifiers, lot codes, and expiration details—into a single, interactive GS1-compliant code that can be applied live on the production line.
By merging these capabilities, the partnership replaces the conventional method of using multiple printed elements, such as linear barcodes and ink-jet production stamps, with a unified solution. Consumers can now scan one code to unlock personalized brand experiences, sustainability insights, and location-specific digital content. This approach allows brands to update their digital communications instantly without incurring the costs associated with redesigning physical packaging or stopping production.
The system also features serialization, which supports sophisticated tracking of operations. This advancement facilitates improved supply chain transparency, item-level verification, anti-counterfeiting strategies, and aligns with emerging Digital Deposit Return Schemes (DRS).
In addition to boosting immediate production efficiencies, this partnership is in step with broader industry trends, particularly GS1’s Sunrise 2027 initiative aimed at implementing 2D barcodes at retail checkout points. It also paves the way for compliance with impending regulatory requirements, including the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) and the associated Digital Product Passports.
