Lactalis is making a significant investment in quark production at its facility located in Neuburg, Bavaria, Germany.

The French dairy powerhouse plans to allocate around €50 million ($57 million) to enhance the plant’s capabilities by introducing quark into its product range. By 2030, the company aims for the site to yield approximately 40,000 metric tonnes of quark alongside 104,000 metric tonnes of whey.

Overall, the Neuburg facility is projected to achieve a total annual output of about 308,000 metric tonnes. This plant specializes in a variety of products, including milk, cream, yogurts, and desserts. It will transition to a continuous operation system, with three shifts working seven days a week, supported by an estimated 70 new employees, according to Lactalis.

With six locations in Germany, Lactalis employs around 1,300 individuals in the country. Recently, the owner of the Lactel and Président brands announced a €1 billion investment plan aimed at “modernising” its manufacturing facilities in France. This initiative is part of a broader strategy set through 2030 to enhance and refine the performance of its domestic operations.

The focus of this French investment will be on upgrading production technology, fostering innovation, and prioritizing decarbonization efforts. Already planned projects include expanding the Petit Basque cheese production facility in Larceveau and introducing new production lines at the Bouvron and Bayeux sites.

In July of the previous year, Lactalis announced the closure of a dairy manufacturing site in Australia as part of a comprehensive evaluation of its long-term operational strategy in the region.

Earlier this month, Lactalis acquired Protein Works, a UK company specializing in protein-rich products. Launched in 2012, Protein Works offers a range of protein-focused items such as powders, shakes, and bars.
