IDAK Food Group’s subsidiary, Römer’s Hausbäckerei, has successfully acquired the Swiss bakery operation Kern & Sammet for an undisclosed amount.

Based in Wädenswil, Kern & Sammet (K&S) boasts nearly 50 years of experience in food manufacturing, specializing in the production of bread, baked goods, desserts, and snacks. With a workforce of around 100 employees, K&S has established a strong market presence.

Römer’s Hausbäckerei, which focuses on developing frozen bakery products, has acquired K&S from its owner, Hansjörg Knecht. This strategic move aligns with Römer’s goal to expand its product offerings.

Knecht commented on the transaction, stating: “In terms of quality, innovation, and Swissness, the two brands complement each other perfectly, and the merger will enhance their competitiveness in the Swiss food market.”

Founded in 1974, Römer’s Hausbäckerei was acquired by IDAK in 2023. The company supplies products to various channels, including foodservice, wholesale, and retail.

IDAK CEO Christof Lehmann expressed enthusiasm about the merger: “The integration of K&S with Römer’s enables the IDAK Food Group to embark on the next phase of strategic growth in the frozen bakery goods segment.”

IDAK also owns Swiss potato-snacks business Kadi and the Italy-based pizza supplier Margherita, both of which were acquired in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

In 2023, IDAK reported impressive sales figures exceeding Sfr250m ($274.6m) and employed approximately 1,000 staff members.

In addition, last year, TowerBrook Capital Partners, a prominent London and New York-based investment firm, acquired a majority stake in IDAK from previous owners Invision and Nord Holding for an undisclosed sum.
