Fam Stumabo has expanded the capabilities of its SureTec 240P potato processing machine by introducing a universal, contoured infeed system.
The redesigned unit handles white and sweet potatoes measuring up to 200 mm in diameter. As a result, processors can produce longer fries, increase line capacity and reduce blockages. Its straightforward setup also lowers reliance on highly experienced specialist operators, supporting current food manufacturing trends focused on efficiency and ease of use.
The upgraded infeed chute will replace the standard version used on the SureTec 240P. Designed for both white and sweet potatoes, it guides each potato into the drum at the correct angle and position. This improves throughput and supports longer fry production while helping prevent jams, particularly during sweet potato processing.
Greater flexibility for white and sweet potatoes
The new design increases the maximum product diameter from 110 mm to 200 mm while retaining the machine’s 240 mm product-length capacity.
This broader operating range allows the SureTec 240P to process a wider selection of potatoes, including large sweet potatoes that often exceed 110 mm in diameter. With a 240 mm drum, the machine can cut long potatoes whole, eliminating the need for unnecessary trimming. The contoured infeed positions every potato for accurate cutting, helping maintain consistent output and reducing interruptions.
Engineered for clean, precise slicing, the SureTec 240P also helps limit broken pieces and ragged edges. As food processing technology continues to advance alongside changing food and drink consumer trends, processors are placing greater importance on machinery that delivers repeatable performance with minimal operator intervention. Feedback from Fam Stumabo customers indicates that simple setup and dependable results are becoming increasingly important as skilled personnel become more difficult to recruit and retain.
“Skilled technical personnel are becoming harder to find and retain, so processors need equipment that is less dependent on specialist operator knowledge. Finding and keeping trained technicians is getting harder, so processors are looking for machinery that doesn’t need a lot of expert skill to run. The SureTec 240P gets rid of a lot of the usual setup hassles. Operators can now get the setup right every single time with far less effort. Potato processors have reacted so positively because they instantly see this problem and know our solution fills a genuine gap in the market,” says Leighton Banner, branch manager for Fam Stumabo UK & Ireland.
The SureCut Unit (SCU) addresses this operational challenge by allowing cutting components to be assembled and calibrated away from the machine. Plants can prepare additional SCUs in advance and keep them available for rapid changeovers. Operators can then install a complete assembly quickly, reducing the number of adjustments required on the machine and lowering the risk of setup errors. This approach supports smoother product changes and helps minimize downtime.
Designed for a broad range of potato products
The SureTec 240P processes unpeeled, abrasion-peeled and steam-peeled white and sweet potatoes. It can produce straight fries, crinkle fries, extra-deep crinkle fries, cubes and slices, giving processors flexibility across multiple product lines. This versatility retains the proven features of the previous model while responding to wider food and beverage industry trends, including demand for adaptable equipment and efficient production.
Interchangeable impeller options position products of different sizes accurately before cutting. In addition, the slipper clutch and slip-detection system help protect the cutting components if foreign material enters the machine, reducing the likelihood of damage and unplanned stoppages. This combination of flexibility and protection reflects wider food and drink industry innovation, as manufacturers seek reliable food processing technology that supports productivity, food and drink sustainability and efficient resource use.
Fam Stumabo will present the updated SureTec 240P at Interpom in Hall 1, Booth 199, where visitors can also explore how modern food and drink packaging, food and drink marketing, food distribution trends and evolving food and drink regulations are influencing equipment requirements across the sector.
