Spanish sustainable packaging company Enbox (World Vypmar) has received the esteemed Arcapack Oro 2026 national award for Best Food Packaging, recognizing its innovative “Snack Shot” container for cherry tomatoes from the brand’s eco-conscious Synergy packaging line.

This accolade, which celebrates excellence in packaging design throughout Spain, was presented to structural packaging designer Víctor Folk for developing a solution that effectively addresses the reduction of plastic usage, adheres to stringent European fresh-produce regulations, and fosters consumer engagement.

Enhancing the fresh produce experience
The award jury noted that the “Snack Shot” design confronts a significant challenge within the fresh produce industry: making nutritious foods visually appealing and emotionally engaging for children, particularly in the face of competition from heavily marketed, ultra-processed snacks.

Folk’s structural design reimagines a conventional, passive cardboard tray into an active consumer experience. This packaging incorporates a recyclable cardboard body, paired with an interactive outer sleeve. Using a straightforward folding mechanism integrated into the cardboard, consumers can transform the empty container into a miniature basketball hoop.

“This cardboard tray with an interactive sleeve becomes, via folding, a basketball hoop,” designer Víctor Folk remarked about the concept. “Open, taste, and score.”

Regulatory compliance and innovative structure
In addition to engaging consumers, the foundational structure of this award-winning packaging leverages Enbox’s Synergy line—a technology created in collaboration with global fiber-based packaging leader Graphic Packaging International.

The Synergy format was developed as a direct response to stricter European Union regulations on single-use plastics, including the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) that affects fresh produce packaging under 1.5 kilograms. Made from FSC-certified kraft cardboard sourced from sustainably managed forests, the heat-sealable Synergy trays present a fully recyclable, mono-material alternative to conventional plastic clamshells.

From a logistics perspective, the jury emphasized the packaging’s capability to sustain high operational efficiency, robust transit strength, and compatibility with automated packing for agricultural producers, enabling brands to forgo plastic windows without exacerbating retail spoilage.

The Arcapack Oro awardees are presented with a handcrafted trophy plated in 18-karat gold, solidifying Enbox and the Synergy platform’s role as leaders in Spain’s evolving environment-friendly food packaging sector.
