Colombia Welcomes Unilever’s New Food Manufacturing Facility

Unilever, a leading consumer goods giant, has recently inaugurated a new factory in Colombia, dedicated to its local food brands Fruco and Del Huerto. Located in Palmira, the facility is part of Unilever’s existing production complex and serves as a hub for their dressings production. By consolidating their operations in Palmira, Unilever aims to enhance logistical efficiency, optimize their supply chain, and better respond to local market demands.

This newly-built factory is a significant addition to Unilever’s presence in Latin America, making it the fourth-largest production center in the region. With a workforce of 1,200 employees, the hub supplies customers not only in Colombia but also in 16 other Latin American countries. Unilever LATAM’s food division encompasses popular brands such as Hellmann’s, Knorr, Cica, and Fanacoa, among others.

Although specific details about job creation were not disclosed, Unilever continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities to meet both local and international market demands. In a recent initiative in Mexico, the company invested 5.5 billion pesos (currently $325 million) to improve infrastructure, acquire advanced technologies, and optimize water and energy usage in two food plants. These ongoing projects are scheduled to be completed by 2024.

Unilever’s commitment to growth and innovation extends beyond Latin America, as evidenced by its recent acquisition of the US frozen Greek yogurt brand Yasso. This strategic move aligns with Unilever’s premiumization strategy for its ice cream business, complementing renowned brands like Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum, and Talenti.

As food and beverage industry trends continue to evolve, Unilever remains at the forefront of innovation, sustainability, and consumer-driven initiatives. Through its efficient manufacturing practices, adoption of cutting-edge food processing technology, adherence to food and drink regulations, and strategic marketing and packaging techniques, Unilever consistently meets the evolving demands of the modern market.

Unilever’s new factory in Colombia marks a significant milestone in its commitment to the food and beverage industry. By streamlining operations, increasing production capacity, and expanding its product portfolio, Unilever ensures that it remains a key player in the ever-changing landscape of the food and drink sector.
