Bühler and Endeco have launched an advanced Protein Application Center in Uzwil, as part of the company’s expanded food innovation capabilities. This new center will help propel the food industry forward with its state-of-the-art technology solutions for protein processing, from raw materials to finished consumer products. The center encompasses both dry and wet processing options for plant proteins, reflecting the company’s commitment to covering the entire protein value chain and catering to the growing demand for plant-based foods.

Customers can now make use of the testing facilities at the center to develop and validate their ideas for producing a wide array of plant-based food products, including meat substitutes and beverages. This collaboration has combined the extensive expertise of both Bühler and Endeco, resulting in the rapid rise of pulses as a sustainable and healthy source of protein.

The Protein Application Center features two different processes for protein isolation, both provided through technology partnerships with industry leaders. These processes enable the separation of valuable components without denaturation or loss of properties, leading to the production of highly functional proteins with increased yield and purity.

Moreover, the center allows for testing processes and the development of new products in dairy alternatives, while also placing a strong emphasis on optimizing the sustainability of industrial processes. This focus on efficiency and sustainability is integral to Bühler’s approach in the development of food innovations.

The Protein Application Center is a crucial link in the development of protein-based finished products, such as healthy snacks, plant-based meat, protein bars, and high-protein pasta. It collaborates closely with the other Application & Training Centers in Uzwil, such as the Grain Innovation Center and the Extrusion Application Center, to provide a comprehensive range of solutions, from raw materials to the final products.

This cutting-edge facility underscores the company’s dedication to the development of sustainable, nutritious, and high-quality food products, in response to the increasing consumer demand for plant-based alternatives to meat and dairy. As Ian Roberts, CTO of Bühler, emphasizes, “The Protein Application Center gives our customers the unique chance to address this opportunity, exploring and creating the next generation of food ingredients for meat and dairy alternatives while addressing the entire protein value chain in collaboration with all the other Application & Training Centers in Uzwil.”
