William Jackson Food Group Appoints ABF Veteran Murphy as CEO

William Jackson Food Group names ABF veteran Murphy CEO

William Jackson Food Group, a prominent UK-based food business, has appointed industry veteran Paul Murphy as its new CEO.

Murphy takes over from Sonya Eastaugh, who has been serving as the acting CEO since May of last year, following the departure of James Watson.

Eastaugh, a sixth-generation member of the Jackson family and the group’s chairwoman, stated: “There’s a clear alignment between Paul’s expertise and the requirements here at William Jackson Food Group, and we’re excited to welcome him to the business.”

She emphasized the personal significance of Murphy’s return to a company with strong ties to Hull: “Beginning his career at Reckitt Benckiser in Hull, Paul has expressed his excitement at reconnecting with the area where his professional journey began and contributing to its legacy through our family business.”

Joining William Jackson Food Group, Murphy brings with him over 22 years of experience from Associated British Foods, where he most recently held the position of Managing Director for international markets at Twinings tea.

Commenting on his new role, Murphy said: “The businesses within William Jackson Food Group are unique and diverse, each presenting its own opportunities and challenges. Yet they all share a common passion for producing high-quality food, which has been a consistent theme throughout my career.”

Founded in 1851, the East Yorkshire-based food company remains a sixth-generation family business.

The origins of the group trace back to a grocery store opened by William Jackson in Hull, which has since grown to encompass seven distinct food businesses.

Its extensive portfolio includes well-known names such as Abel & Cole, Jacksons Bakery, and the condiments brand Belazu.

In a strategic move last year, the group acquired the renowned family-run baking business Lottie Shaw’s, further enhancing its marketplace presence.
