In its 175th anniversary year, the Bordeaux-based Group has highlighted its vision in its new sustainability report. However, the past year has presented numerous challenges for Touton, including economic impacts of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, deficits in cocoa and coffee production, and tensions in the vanilla sector. Additionally, market transformation and regulations related to climate change and economic development have posed underlying challenges.

CEO Patrick de Boussac emphasizes the need for adaptation and innovation in the face of these challenges. He states, “At a time when the European Union is increasing supply chain regulation and we are facing historically high market demand, we must anticipate tighter production levels. To overcome these challenges, we rely on our values to turn them into opportunities and become a catalyst for change.”

Touton’s 2023 sustainability report outlines its proactive approach. The company leverages its supply chain management expertise to lead by example and remain transparent. It invests in research, partnerships, and startup-led solutions to support the climate and economic resilience of partner producers in cocoa, coffee, and ingredients. Examples of these efforts include partnering with initiatives like the Cavally Landscape project and the CLEF project to address deforestation and child labor. Touton also implements grassroots programs such as “Child Ambassadors” and “Agripreneurs” brigades to empower children and youth in the supply chains.

The report also highlights Touton’s commitment to increasing agility in supply chain management and offering exceptional customer service. The company strengthens its vertical integration and subsidiary network, with the development of new logistics platforms in Côte d’Ivoire and the establishment of a sourcing entity in Tanzania. Environmental sustainability is another key focus, with efforts to combat global warming and deforestation and promote regenerative agriculture-based supply chains.

Touton introduces a unique Sustainable Procurement Standard, based on its expertise, to further enhance the sustainable conversion of its value chains. The company also prioritizes governance and compliance, aiming to improve third-party evaluations, anti-corruption measures, and quality management systems. As part of this effort, Touton renews its audited key performance indicators (KPIs) and indicators to ensure transparency and monitor its impact and business practices.

Touton’s sustainability report showcases its dedication to addressing the challenges posed by the food and beverage industry trends. By actively pursuing innovative solutions, complying with regulations, and adopting sustainable practices, Touton aims to lead the way in the food and beverage sector.
