The Stockholm-based company has completed the acquisition of Glenhaven, a specialist in frozen breaded chicken, for an enterprise value of €127 million. This strategic move aims to enhance its offerings within the ready-to-eat and value-added poultry sectors.
Scandi Standard asserts that this acquisition will “significantly expand” its footprint in the UK and Ireland, furthering its goal of becoming Europe’s “leading chicken company.”
Currently, Scandi Standard’s operations in Ireland are spearheaded by Manor Farm, a Co. Cavan entity it acquired in 2017.
The purchase will be financed through a combination of cash and an interest-free debt arrangement, which will comprise about one-third of the total deal value, due within a year after completion.
Glenhaven, based in Arklow, Co. Wicklow, caters to various retail and food service clients, including quick-service restaurants in both Ireland and the UK, employing around 190 staff members.
Jonas Tunestål, the CEO of Scandi Standard, emphasized the strategic advantages of this deal, stating: “Glenhaven Foods is an excellent strategic fit for Scandi Standard. The acquisition strengthens our position in value-added and Ready-to-Eat poultry products, expands our presence in Ireland and the UK, and brings a highly capable team with a strong track record of profitable growth.”
He added, “We are delighted to welcome Glenhaven Foods to our Irish business, led by Manor Farm, and look forward to building on the strong foundations already established.”
Scandi Standard’s diverse portfolio encompasses various ready-to-eat, chilled, and frozen items, marketed under brands such as Kronfågel, Danpo, Den Stolte Hane, and Naapurin Maalaiskana.
With more than 3,600 employees, the company operates in seven countries across Europe: Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Lithuania, and the Netherlands.
The anticipated completion for the Glenhaven Foods acquisition is set for the third quarter of 2026, following a series of global acquisitions that included manufacturing facilities in the Netherlands and Lithuania.
Barry Cahill, CEO and co-owner of Glenhaven Foods, remarked: “My parents, David and Evanne, started Glenhaven Foods more than 40 years ago, and it has been at the heart of our family ever since. Since my sister Emma and I stepped into leadership roles, we’ve been incredibly proud to experience the foundation they built, the customer relationships they developed, and the brilliant team that is the bedrock of the business.”
He continued, “Glenhaven’s success is down to the hard work of our colleagues, our focus on quality, and always putting our customers first. We truly believe Scandi Standard and Manor Farm are the right partners for our next chapter. They bring the scale and ambition to help us grow, while holding onto the family values that make Glenhaven what it is today.”
