The UK-based food manufacturer Samworth Brothers is currently in consultation with staff regarding the potential closure of its Revolution Kitchen business in Leicestershire. This move could put hundreds of jobs at risk, although Samworth Brothers did not confirm the exact number of employees affected when contacted by Just Food.

However, a spokesperson for Samworth Brothers stated, “No decisions have been made as yet. In the event of a closure, it is hoped that many individuals will have the opportunity to be redeployed to one of our other sites in the Leicestershire area.”

The production site, located on Pate Road in Melton Mowbray, East Midlands, England, is where Revolution Kitchen operates. In addition to its own products, Revolution Kitchen also manufactures private-label items such as the Wicked Kitchen range for Tesco. The Wicked Kitchen portfolio includes plant-based frozen ready meals, pizzas, ice cream, meat, and fish.

Samworth Brothers is a food manufacturer specializing in food-to-go, savoury pastries, cooked meals, and plant-based products. Last month, Plant & Bean, another UK-headquartered plant-based company, called in administrators, and administrators Interpath Advisory are currently exploring options for the business. VFC Foods also acquired The Meatless Farm Co. brand in June after the company went into administration, although the deal only includes the brand and inventory.

Meanwhile, in the US, loss-making plant-based food business Tattooed Chef announced in July that it was seeking a buyer after failing to secure funds for its future.
