Rural Affairs Minister Lesley Griffiths commented: “Welsh food and drink exports continue to thrive, ensuring that consumers around the world can savor the high-quality products originating from Wales.

“Today’s results exemplify the sector’s skills, dedication to innovation, and commitment to delivering the finest produce. I am delighted to make this announcement at the Royal Welsh Show, providing Welsh companies with an opportunity to showcase their exceptional food and drink, which I am sure visitors from near and far are thoroughly enjoying.”

Project Helix and the Strategic Innovation Scheme

In addition, the Minister has introduced the Strategic Innovation Scheme, aiming to provide comprehensive business support services to food and drink enterprises across Wales. As part of this initiative, Project Helix, an established program offering technical and commercial assistance to the Welsh food and drink industry, will continue until March 2025.

The latest figures indicate that since its launch in 2016, Helix has generated an impressive economic boost of £355 million for the industry. Moreover, it has facilitated the creation of 683 jobs and the protection of an additional 3,647 jobs. Over 700 businesses have received support through this scheme, leading to the development of nearly 2,100 new food and drink products. Going forward, the project will expand its assistance to larger manufacturers in Wales, while continuing to support small and medium-sized enterprises and micro-businesses.
