Pilgrim’s Europe has invested more than £6 million in a major redevelopment of Potton Farm in Cambridgeshire, strengthening the site’s role within the company’s UK and international poultry supply network.
The project increases production capacity by making more effective use of the existing footprint and introducing upgraded equipment. As part of the transformation, five modern, larger steel-framed clear-span buildings have replaced the farm’s former timber poultry sheds.
A revised site layout has also improved vehicle and employee access, while creating more contemporary working facilities. These changes are designed to support more efficient day-to-day operations and reflect wider food manufacturing trends focused on productivity, infrastructure investment and improved working environments.
The refurbished farm now includes upgraded ventilation and misting systems, together with modern feeding technology. These improvements give teams greater control over internal conditions and will help Potton Farm maintain its “consistently high standards of animal welfare and performance”.
The investment also highlights the growing role of food processing technology and operational efficiency across the food and beverage industry, as producers respond to evolving food and drink consumer trends, food distribution trends and customer expectations.
“Potton Farm is an important part of our poultry operations, and this investment represents a significant commitment to the long-term future of the site and to poultry production in the region,” said Aaron McKenna, head of broiler operations UK at Pilgrim’s Europe.
“The transformation of the site provides our teams with modern facilities that will support the farm for years to come, enabling us to continue delivering high standards of bird welfare, operating as efficiently as possible and providing the best service to our customers.”
The completed development provides Pilgrim’s Europe with upgraded production infrastructure to support future demand across domestic and export markets, while contributing to broader food and drink industry innovation and food and drink sustainability objectives.
