PepsiCo, a global leader in the food and beverage industry, has announced a €39m expansion at its manufacturing facility in Little Island, Ireland. This strategic move will reinforce its position in the market and capitalize on emerging food and beverage industry trends.

The investment will primarily focus on expanding manufacturing capacity for a variety of beverage ingredients, meeting the growing demand for popular PepsiCo products such as Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Gatorade, 7Up, and Mountain Dew. Furthermore, it will foster innovation, allowing PepsiCo to introduce exciting new products to its global customer base effectively.

In line with its commitment to sustainability, PepsiCo will allocate €2.4m towards the installation of a major solar PV system at the Little Island facility. This installation, to be completed by Q4 2023, will significantly reduce electricity consumption, showcasing PepsiCo’s dedication to sustainable food manufacturing trends.

The solar PV system is expected to generate a remarkable 1820 kW, with peak capacity to fulfill 100% of the plant’s electrical demand. This translates to a reduction of about 22% in electricity requirements annually.

Since 1974, PepsiCo has been an integral part of the Irish market. By investing in the Little Island facility once again, Site Director Brian Colgan emphasizes the company’s commitment to growth and the benefits it will bring not only to Little Island but also to the wider Cork region. This latest milestone further solidifies the facility’s reputation for sustainability and contributes to the local economy.

In May, PepsiCo completed a €127m investment in the same site and its adjacent R&D facilities. This continuous commitment reflects its dedication to maintaining manufacturing excellence and paving the way for advancements in food and beverage industry innovation.

With its current workforce in Cork exceeding 1,250 employees, PepsiCo continues to be a prominent employer in the region. The company currently has approximately 100 vacancies, providing opportunities for job seekers interested in the dynamic food and beverage sector.
