Nomad Foods to Invest Over £2 Million in Its Lowestoft Facility

Nomad Foods to Invest Over £2 Million in Its Lowestoft Facility Food and Beverage Business

The investment from the owner of Birds Eye and Findus will lead to the establishment of a state-of-the-art production line for potato waffles at their facility.

This development is set to raise the total waffle output to around 18,250 tonnes per year, translating to almost 45 million potato waffles.

Nomad emphasized that this investment is a crucial component of its extensive long-term productivity initiative, which aims to enhance efficiency, competitiveness, and production scale throughout its manufacturing operations.

A total of £2.2 million is allocated for the new waffle production line, which complements a broader investment strategy at the Lowestoft site. This strategy also encompasses a recent £12 million investment in chicken processing, alongside plans for an on-site wind turbine.

The manufacturer based in Woking highlighted that this investment plan reflects its dedication to the UK frozen food sector and its efforts to strengthen supply chain resilience amid increasing pressures on food systems.

Eduardo Bachiega, chief supply officer at Nomad Foods, stated: “This latest investment at our Lowestoft site is testament to our long-term commitment to UK food manufacturing.”

He further elaborated: “By increasing our production capacity we’re directly responding to consumer demand for household favourites, such as potato waffles, that are already being manufactured 24/7 at the factory.”

Bachiega added: “At a time of increasing pressure on global food systems, as well as ongoing cost-of-living challenges for consumers, we continue to invest in our operations, ensuring key frozen food categories such as fish, vegetables, chicken, and potatoes remain an accessible food choice for families across the UK and Europe.”

Established in 1949, the Lowestoft facility occupies over 25 acres and stands as the largest private employer in the locality.

The factory’s product range includes Birds Eye chicken dippers, potato waffles, peas, and coated fish, with approximately 15% of its production being exported to Nomad’s other European markets.
