Traditionally, coffee originates from various regions including South or Central America, Africa, or parts of Asia. It then undertakes a lengthy journey to an industrial plant for roasting, followed by another international trip to be packaged by retailers.
In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect the environment, and preserve the quality of the coffee, ansā, a company based in Irreal, designed its product to minimize these journeys.
Coffee beans often crisscross the globe two or three times before reaching the consumers’ mug, resulting in a significant carbon footprint,” explained ansā co-founder and CMO Matan Scharf. “Furthermore, the quality gets compromised during this time, leading to the loss of unique aromas and flavors.”
Instead, ansā eliminates the middleman and delivers raw green coffee beans directly from the farm to the consumer. These beans can be roasted in ansā’s machine, which employs computer vision algorithms to ensure a consistent roast with the optimal energy application.
Notably, ansā prioritizes sustainability by sourcing their beans responsibly. “At ansā, we are committed to promoting sustainability by shortening the coffee supply chain,” Scharf stated.
Their single-origin approach enables them to establish direct relationships with farmers and support local economies through point-to-point trade routes. This focus on single-origin coffee not only enhances the coffee tasting experience but also significantly reduces transportation mileage and carbon footprint.
Furthermore, this sourcing method benefits coffee farmers, as ansā exclusively sources specialty graded green coffee beans directly from growers. By eliminating intermediaries and prioritizing specialty-graded coffee, ansā ensures that growers receive the full price markup associated with their high-quality products.
From shrub to cup, ansā provides transparency and traceability by working closely with producers in origin countries. They adhere to the rules and regulations set by these countries regarding labor practices and growing standards. In addition, ansā regularly visits the origin countries to show support and conduct quality assurance checks.
Although currently not available in Europe, ansā has plans to expand to this key market in the future.
In summary, ansā’s innovative approach shortens the coffee supply chain, reduces environmental impact, and supports coffee producers while delivering a superior coffee experience.
