Lidl Set to Launch 19 New Stores and Create 600 Jobs by Early 2026 Food and Beverage Business

In the coming eight weeks, the German retailer plans to launch 19 new stores across the UK, generating approximately 640 new job opportunities.

These new locations will enhance the supermarket chain’s footprint nationwide, with openings stretching from Calne in Wiltshire to Brough in Yorkshire.

As part of this strategic growth initiative, Lidl will invest over £40 million to modernize more than 70 existing stores.

Furthermore, these investments will broaden support for over 35 local charities and community food redistribution partners, aligning with current trends in food distribution and sustainability.

This announcement reflects Lidl’s ongoing trajectory of remarkable growth. According to its estimates, Lidl now serves over 60% of British households, contributing £14.5 billion in gross value added (GVA) to the UK economy in the 2024 financial year.

Richard Taylor, chief real estate officer at Lidl GB stated: “We’re starting the new year as we mean to go on, with a major investment that reinforces our commitment to delivering the best experience for customers and creating a positive impact for the communities we serve.”

“With this push, we’re set on winning more shoppers across the nation and claiming an even bigger share of the market.”

As the UK’s fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar retailer, Lidl’s systematic investments and new store openings are integral to its ‘Lidl Effect’ strategy. This strategy aims to enhance community engagement and address current food and beverage industry trends.

Through its surplus food donation initiative, Feed it Back—executed in partnership with Neighbourly—Lidl provided 18.5 million meals last year, positively impacting 6.8 million individuals across Great Britain.

This ambitious expansion comes shortly after what the retailer has referred to as its “biggest Christmas ever” during which it experienced record customer footfall.
