European bakery group Lantmännen Unibake has strategically acquired Boboli Benelux, a Dutch producer known for its savoury baked goods.

While the financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, the significance of this acquisition is evident.

In a recent statement, Lantmännen Unibake, headquartered in Copenhagen, highlighted that this deal will “serve as a cornerstone” for expanding its presence in the savoury sector.

Carsten Thomsen, president of Lantmännen Unibake, stated that the acquisition represents a “strong step forward in expanding our portfolio and strengthening our position in the fast-growing European bake-off market.”

He further emphasized that with Boboli Benelux, “we are not just adding capacity; we are shaping new opportunities for growth, partnerships, and long-term leadership in this category.”

Boboli Benelux specializes in Mediterranean-inspired flatbreads, such as focaccias, pizzas, and pizza crusts.

Moreover, the company has established a solid market presence in the Benelux region, the UK, and Germany.

Employing approximately 200 individuals, Boboli Benelux operates a bakery facility in Bunschoten, which will now serve as Lantmännen Unibake’s first bakery site in the Netherlands.

Bart Hulsman, CEO of Boboli Benelux, stated that by joining Lantmännen Unibake, the company will “gain a strategic partner that shares our commitment to professionalism, innovation, and sustainability.”

Lantmännen Unibake is a part of the Swedish agricultural cooperative Lantmännen, with products sold in over 60 markets worldwide. Its diverse portfolio includes renowned brands such as Schulstad, Pastridor, and Hatting, supported by a workforce of around 6,000 employees.

The acquisition of Boboli Benelux follows a series of strategic initiatives from Lantmännen and its subsidiaries. For instance, in May, Lantmännen announced an investment of approximately Skr700m ($73m) to develop a new bread production facility in Örebro, describing this venture as a “strategic leap forward” in boosting production capacity.

Earlier that same month, Lantmännen acquired a 10% stake in Sproud, a distributor of plant-based milks made from split yellow peas.

Additionally, in April, Lantmännen increased its stake in SimSuFoodS, a company specializing in dry vegetable products, to over 50%. In February, its meat and charcuterie division, Scan Sverige, agreed to acquire Lindvalls Chark, a Swedish meat company.
