Impossible Foods CEO to Resign from Alternative Meat Company Impossible Foods Food and Beverage Business

Impossible Foods has announced that CEO Peter McGuinness has stepped down after nearly four years of leadership at the plant-based meat innovator. The company revealed that his responsibilities will now be managed by an executive leadership team instead of a single CEO. This team includes Jason Gao, Chief Legal and Operating Officer; Meredith Madden, Chief Demand Officer; and Robert Haas, Chief Supply Officer.

According to board member Fedele Bauccio, “We’re grateful for Peter’s impactful leadership as CEO, which helped establish Impossible as the strongest player in the category, and we’re happy he will remain on the Board.” He further stated, “We have the utmost confidence in Jason, Meredith and Rob to lead the company into its next chapter of growth.”

Impossible Foods emphasized that the leadership transition occurs “from a position of strength.” Although the company did not disclose specific data, it asserted that under McGuinness’s guidance, it outperformed the broader plant-based category through innovation, demand creation, and critical distribution gains.

It’s important to note that retail sales across the US plant-based meat market have faced pressure recently, with category sales experiencing a decline. During McGuinness’s tenure, the company focused on repositioning the Impossible brand, notably redesigning its identity to underline that plant-based meat can offer superior taste.

Founded in 2011, Impossible Foods specializes in creating alternatives for chicken, beef, and pork. Recently, the company partnered with food-tech start-up Equii to broaden its product offerings, incorporating select grain-based innovations into its pipeline.

In his statements, McGuinness remarked, “Over the last four years, we’ve expanded, evolved, and invested in both the company and the brand. We constructed a sustainable business that could support our sustainable mission.”
