Grupo Bimbo, a leading player in the bakery industry, has appointed Alejandro Rodríguez Bas as its new CEO, following the resignation of Rafael Pamias Romero.

In a statement released on November 6, the Mexico-based powerhouse announced that Romero had “decided to take a pause to address personal and health matters.”

Rodríguez Bas has been with Grupo Bimbo since 2021. Currently serving as the president of the Barcel Global snacks division, he is also a member of the executive committee.

Prior to joining Grupo Bimbo, Rodríguez Bas held the position of CEO at PepsiCo for Australia and New Zealand, among other regions. Additionally, he has served as CEO at Grupo Lala in Mexico and Acosta.

Daniel Servitje, Executive Chair of Grupo Bimbo, remarked that Rodríguez Bas has “built a results-driven career, with solid commercial and operational experience, and a proven track record of driving growth in iconic consumer brands.”

He further stated, “Over the past four years, he has been key in accelerating innovation, expanding the Barcel brand to many countries, and establishing manufacturing operations on different continents.”

Commenting on his recent appointment, Rodríguez Bas expressed, “We will continue driving growth through powerful brands with enormous potential, reaching every corner of the world, with a constant focus on our associates, clients, and consumers.”

Grupo Bimbo, touted as the world’s largest baking company, reported sales of 408.3 billion pesos (about $22 billion) in 2024. The company boasts operations in 91 countries.

Key product categories include sliced and artisan breads, buns and rolls, and various pastries and cakes. Major brands consist of Bimbo, Oroweat, and Marinela.

In October, Grupo Bimbo disclosed its third-quarter results, revealing net sales of 107.4 billion pesos—a 1.2% year-over-year increase.

Operating income marginally increased by 0.4% to 9.4 billion pesos, while adjusted EBITDA rose by 0.8% to 15.8 billion pesos. However, net majority income saw a 9% decline to 3.3 billion pesos.

Looking ahead, Grupo Bimbo’s operating income in 2024 fell by 6.5% to 33.1 billion pesos, while adjusted EBITDA climbed by 1% to 55.4 billion pesos. Net majority income decreased by 18.9% to 12.5 billion pesos.
