Dutch meat processor Compaxo Group is preparing to acquire fellow food manufacturers Gepo Vleeswaren and Kroon Vleeswarenfabriek Zwaagwesteinde.
The companies have not revealed the financial value of the proposed deal.
In a statement, family-owned Compaxo said the acquisition would help it “strengthen our position within our core activities”.
The business identified processed meats and liver sausage products as areas where the combined group could expand.
Compaxo also highlighted the advantages of operating at greater scale, citing potential improvements across logistics, new product development, the product portfolio and packaging operations.
Established in 1958, Gepo evolved from a traditional sausage maker in Hoofddorp into a specialist supplier of processed meat products.
Kroon’s history dates back to 1870, when it started life as a butcher’s shop in Groningen before developing into a processed meat brand with national reach.
Kroon has been owned by Gepo since 2006.
Gepo, like Compaxo, is a family-run company. Completion of the transaction remains dependent on the necessary consultation and approval processes, together with the finalisation of outstanding agreements.
Compaxo was founded in Gouda in 1896.
Owned by the van der Post family, the company specialises in pork processing, cured meat and plant-based food products.
Its production footprint comprises facilities in Gouda and Zevenaar, in the east of the Netherlands.
The proposed acquisition follows Compaxo’s purchase in April of Pigarné, a specialist piglet slaughterhouse, as reported by Dutch news outlet Boerenbusiness.
