US-based plant-based seafood company Bayou Best Foods has acquired its German counterpart, BettaF!sh.
Established in 2024, Bayou Best Foods specializes in plant-based shrimp, distributing primarily to restaurants across the United States. Meanwhile, BettaF!sh’s products are available in retail outlets throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
In a recent announcement, Bayou Best Foods highlighted the “complementary strengths” of both companies in terms of innovation and distribution capabilities.
Kelli Wilson, the CEO of Bayou Best Foods, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership: “We share the same belief that seafood should be delicious, accessible, and sustainable, and we see enormous potential in what we can build together.”
Following the completion of the acquisition, both companies plan to introduce each other’s products into their respective markets.
Wilson also indicated to Just Food that there are plans to launch Bayou Best Foods’ plant-based shrimp in the European market during the third quarter.
BettaF!sh is known for its seaweed-based offerings, which include Tu-Nah, a tuna alternative, and Sal-Nom, a salmon substitute. These products are expected to enter the US market in the first half of the upcoming year.
Deniz Ficicioglu, founder and CEO of BettaF!sh, noted: “This is a natural next chapter for BettaF!sh. By joining forces, we can move faster, reach more customers, and help shape the future of seafood together.”
Both organizations utilize contract manufacturers to facilitate their production processes.
In related news, last week, Livekindly Collective announced its acquisition of Germany-based plant-based food manufacturer Greenforce Future Food. Led by CEO Thomas Isermann, Greenforce focuses on plant-based meat, egg, and cheese alternatives.
Additionally, last month, Schouten Europe expanded its portfolio by acquiring Dutch meat and seafood substitute producer Bobeldijk Food Group, a move that the family-owned company says will enhance its production capabilities and fortify its market presence.
