He takes over from Geoff Byrne, who will assume the role of CEO at Booker Group.
According to the store, these appointments highlight Tesco’s “ongoing commitment to nurturing leadership talent” throughout the organization, with both roles becoming effective on August 31st.
Andrew Yaxley previously led Tesco Ireland as CEO from 2015 to 2018, guiding the company through a phase of “significant transformation and growth,” as noted by the retailer. Afterward, he joined the Tesco Group leadership team as chief product officer before taking on the CEO position at Booker, where he “helped drive strong growth.”
Speaking about his new role, Yaxley remarked: “I’m delighted to be returning to Tesco Ireland and look forward to working with colleagues to build on the strong momentum already in place.
“Under Geoff’s leadership, the business has delivered excellent progress, growing its position in the market while continuing to serve customers and communities across Ireland and Northern Ireland. I’m excited to lead the business through its next chapter.”
Tesco highlighted that Geoff Byrne brings a wealth of senior leadership experience to his new position at Booker, having recently served as CEO of Tesco Ireland and Northern Ireland, during which he oversaw a period of “sustained growth, investment and market share gains.”
Byrne expressed: “Booker is a fantastic business with a unique position in the market, and I’m excited to work with colleagues there to build on its many strengths.”
Ken Murphy, Tesco Group CEO, commented: “Tesco Ireland and Northern Ireland are both great businesses with talented teams and ambitious plans for the future. Both Yaxley and Byrne will continue their involvement with the Tesco Group Executive Committee.
