In his newly appointed position, Chris Tyas will focus on advancing the Birmingham-based company’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2035. Additionally, he will lend his expertise to bolster supply chain resilience, taking on a prominent role within the organization’s incident management team.

Tyas’s extensive knowledge in the food and beverage sector will be a significant asset for 2 Sisters, particularly as the company navigates the increasing challenges posed by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. With over 40 years of experience in supply chain leadership at renowned companies like Mars and Nestlé, he brings a wealth of expertise.

“I was instantly inspired by the ambitious vision of Ranjit Boparan and his team to lead the charge for a strong, sustainable, and responsible food future for the UK and beyond,” stated Tyas. He emphasized the feasibility of this goal, expressing his eagerness to contribute and share his extensive industry insights during such a tumultuous time for food security.

Currently, he serves as chair for GS1 UK, a not-for-profit organization that develops standards for data-sharing and traceability, enabling businesses and consumers to make informed, sustainable choices. Tyas has also held the role of non-executive board member at Defra, where he co-chaired the Food Industry Resilience Forum (FIRF) for two years, a group aimed at unifying the sector to address challenges within the UK food supply chain during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ranjit Boparan, president of Boparan Holdings Limited, which oversees 2 Sisters Food Group, commented, “We are thrilled to have Chris on board, whose expertise in environmental sustainability and deep understanding of UK and global food supply chain resilience will significantly benefit our Next Gen agenda – an ambitious plan to create a food system that promotes healthy diets and a healthier planet.”

He added, “We are making our largest investment in the future of food, establishing next-generation factories and farms to produce sustainable, nutritious, affordable, and high-quality food that is gentler on the environment. Chris’s appointment will enhance our specialist knowledge as we embark on this new journey.”

Earlier this year, 2 Sisters’ parent company, The Boparan Private Office, expanded its capabilities with the acquisition of Heidemark, a move aimed at boosting automation, innovation, productivity, and sustainability within the organization.
