Veroni, an Italy-based charcuterie specialist, has recently acquired local pig processing business ProSus Gardenia, expanding its reach within the food and beverage industry. This acquisition includes a cooperative of pig producers spanning Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Veneto.
The deal involves ProSus Gardenia’s pig processing business, established in 1985, which operates a ham factory in the Lombardy province. With this acquisition, Veroni aims to enhance the competitiveness of its Correggio brand in international markets, focusing on excellence in Italian-made products. Additionally, the company plans to invest in the Cremona facility to increase productivity and will retain the existing employees.
Since its acquisition by US-based food manufacturer SugarCreek Packing Co. in June of last year, Veroni has also been focused on expanding into the US market. This move aligns with the company’s broader expansion plans beyond its domestic market.
Established in 1925, Veroni is headquartered in Correggio, Emilia-Romagna. The company, which was initially formed by five brothers owning a small grocery store, now operates six production plants in Emilia-Romagna and a slicing facility in the US since 2016. Veroni offers over 600 products across retail and foodservice channels, employing 280 people in Italy and 70 in the US.
As for SugarCreek, it is a diversified packaged food manufacturer with seven manufacturing facilities, employing more than 2,500 people. The acquisition of ProSus Gardenia is part of Veroni’s strategic efforts to continue its growth in the food and drink business.
By acquiring ProSus Gardenia, Veroni aims to strengthen its presence in the continuously evolving food and beverage industry trends. This acquisition is in line with the company’s commitment to meeting food and drink consumer trends, positioning it for continued success in the global market.
