One Stop, in collaboration with global resource management company Veolia, is taking a big step towards sustainable food and drink packaging. Following a successful trial earlier this year, One Stop aims to recycle over 380,000 milk bottles annually from their stores. By partnering with Veolia, the company is able to collect Own Label milk bottles from vending machines and staff refreshments at their distribution centers on a weekly basis for recycling.

Thanks to Veolia’s Dagenham Plastic Facility, these milk bottles embark on their recycling journey. At the facility, the bottles are washed, shredded, and transformed into pellets, which can then be used to create new milk bottles. This closed-loop recycling process not only reduces the need for raw materials but also saves 67% of carbon emissions. Simon Futcher, Commercial Business Development Director at Veolia, expressed his delight in working closely with One Stop to recycle their milk bottles and minimize their carbon impact on the environment.

Amriene Kalsi, Sustainability Manager at One Stop, praised the partnership with Veolia as a significant step towards increasing recycling within their own operations. It aligns with their goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Furthermore, in their journey towards sustainability, One Stop has recently replaced the hard-to-recycle bottle tops on their British semi-skimmed standard milk with clear recyclable lids.

By actively promoting sustainable food and drink packaging, One Stop is making a positive impact on both the environment and their business.
