French food and drink group Sill Entreprises has made a strategic move by acquiring Lyon-based skyr producer Puffy’s for an undisclosed sum. This acquisition positions Sill Entreprises to diversify within the rapidly expanding food and beverage industry trends.
In a statement via LinkedIn, the Brittany-based company emphasized that the acquisition would facilitate entry into a fast-growing segment of the food and drink business. Skyr, a dairy product often linked to Iceland, is renowned for its high protein content and creamy texture, appealing to health-conscious consumers.
Puffy’s, established in 2019, has been recognized as a “pioneer” in the French skyr market. Michel Guigo, the director of development for Sill Entreprises’ fresh dairy division, expressed that Puffy’s range will enhance their dairy product offerings and improve brand promotion across their portfolio.
Sill Entreprises operates prominently in the dairy sector under well-known brands such as Malo, Le Petit Basque, and Le Gall. Guigo further noted, “This new acquisition enriches our product portfolio with an expanded range of cow’s and sheep’s milk skyr, particularly for organic specialist stores.”
In a separate LinkedIn announcement, Puffy’s co-founder Gabriel Gutmann revealed that he will be stepping away from the company. He extended his best wishes to the new owners and expressed enthusiasm for the future of the business. “Wonderful projects are underway, and I can’t wait to see what’s next,” Gutmann stated. “It’s time for me to treat myself to a real break before coming back inspired and ready for new adventures.”
Beyond its dairy products, Sill Entreprises also operates in the frozen ready meals and French soups market through its La Potagère brand. In 2024, the company reported a turnover of €650 million ($709.5 million), reflecting its robust position in the food and drink consumer trends landscape.
