Investor-backed IDAK Food Group in Switzerland has acquired majority ownership of frozen baked goods supplier Romer’s Hausbäckerei, as part of the company’s strategy to expand its portfolio in the food and beverage industry.
Romer’s Hausbäckerei, a family-owned business established in 1974, specializes in producing frozen baked goods such as bread, croissants, strudels, and sausage rolls. They supply their products to retail and foodservice customers.
The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed, but the Romer family will retain their involvement in the business as board directors. Remo Romer, the managing director, will remain in his position during a transition period until a successor is found.
With this acquisition, IDAK Food Group, owned by Swiss investor group Invision, expands its portfolio into baked goods and bakery snacks. IDAK Food Group already owns Kadi, a manufacturer of potato snacks in Langenthal, Switzerland, and Margherita, a frozen pizza business based in Fregona, Italy.
“IDAK’s strategic goal is to build a strong networked growth platform comprised of specialized companies and manufacturers,” stated IDAK Food Group in an official announcement.
Christof Lehmann, the CEO of IDAK Food Group, emphasized that the acquisition of Romer’s Hausbäckerei aligns with the company’s long-term plans to expand in the premium sector of the food and beverage industry. He sees the acquisition as an opportunity to capitalize on Romer’s Hausbäckerei’s growth potential.
In the previous fiscal year, IDAK Food Group reported sales of SFr160m ($179.4m) with approximately 550 employees.
According to Remo Romer, the decision to sell a majority stake in the business was a family decision. Romer expressed confidence in IDAK Food Group as a “strong partner” to lead the business through its next phase of growth.
