Japanese Group St. Cousair Acquires US Jam Business Shelf-stable Food and Beverage Business

Japanese food conglomerate St Cousair is poised to acquire the jam business of US-based Kelly’s Jelly. This strategic move highlights the company’s focus on expanding its footprint in the food and beverage industry trends, particularly within the dynamic specialty food market in the United States.

While the financial specifics of the transaction remain undisclosed, St Cousair confirmed that the acquisition will be executed through its US subsidiary, St Cousair Inc. (SCI), which is also based in Oregon. Given the increasing demand in the food and drink business, this acquisition is part of SCI’s broader strategy to prioritize sales in rapidly growing global markets.

Kelly’s Jelly specializes in producing and selling pepper jelly and fruit spreads mainly in the northwestern United States. Notably, St Cousair operates a factory in Oregon where products marketed under the Kuze Fuku & Sons brand are manufactured. Launched in 2017, Kuze Fuku & Sons delivers a variety of offerings, including apple cider vinegar drinks, smoothies, jams, and sauces.

According to St Cousair, “SCI aims to enhance its production capacity and sales power through cross-selling opportunities with existing brands, thereby accelerating corporate value enhancement.” This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to adapting to evolving food and drink consumer trends.

In the latest fiscal year ending December 2024, the division being acquired reported sales of Y106.21 million ($723,000). St Cousair anticipates that this acquisition will have a “minor” impact on performance for the current fiscal year, but it is expected to bolster the company’s growth in the medium to long term.

This recent deal follows SCI’s previous acquisition of Portlandia Foods in 2023, a brand well-known for its organic ketchup and other condiments. Additionally, a year later, SCI acquired Bonnie’s Enterprises, which specializes in cheese-paired fruit jams. St Cousair noted, “These acquisitions have accelerated [SCI’s] growth,” reinforcing its strategy of capitalizing on opportunities in the food and drink industry.

In summary, St Cousair’s acquisition of Kelly’s Jelly amidst the burgeoning food and beverage landscape illustrates its commitment to leveraging cross-brand synergies and expanding its market presence in the United States.
