Interim CEO Appointed Permanently at Grieg Seafood Fish & Seafood Food and Beverage Business

Norwegian salmon farming company Grieg Seafood has officially appointed Nina Willumsen Grieg, previously serving as interim CEO, as its permanent chief executive.

Since March, Grieg had been in the interim role following the departure of Andreas Kvame, who led the company for a decade. This leadership transition comes at a time when the food and beverage industry is experiencing noteworthy shifts, prompting companies like Grieg Seafood to adapt and thrive.

Notably, Grieg previously held the position of regional director for Grieg Seafood’s operations in Norway, specifically Grieg Seafood Rogaland.

The announcement was made public on August 26, coinciding with the release of Grieg Seafood’s robust second-quarter results. During this period, sales revenue surged by 180%, reaching Nkr1.01 billion. Additionally, harvest volume saw a remarkable increase of 219.3%, climbing from 2,771 tons (GWT) to 8,850 tons (GWT).

Grieg Seafood reported an EBIT rise from Nkr28 million to Nkr33 million for the second quarter. However, the company encountered a pre-tax loss of Nkr65 million, although this improved from a loss of Nkr104 million in the same quarter of 2024.

Looking at the first half of 2025, sales revenue increased by 20.7% to Nkr1.94 billion, while harvest volume saw a 33.4% rise from 12,196 tons (GWT) in 2024 to 16,269 tons (GWT) in 2025. However, EBIT for the first half fell to Nkr9 million from Nkr169 million the previous year.

In another significant development, Grieg Seafood posted a pre-tax loss of Nkr446 million in the first half of this year, contrasting with a pre-tax profit of Nkr53 million during the same timeframe last year.

Commenting on these results, Willumsen Grieg stated: “Grieg Seafood entered the second quarter of 2025 with a continued focus on executing our transformational journey, strengthening our balance sheet, and positioning the company for long-term, sustainable profitability.”

Further enhancing its financial position, Grieg Seafood recently agreed to sell three salmon processing facilities to Cermaq for Nkr10.2 billion. This transaction, which involves farming operations in Finnmark, British Columbia, and Newfoundland—as well as a 50% stake in Nordnorsk Smolt—is anticipated to complete in Q4 2025, pending regulatory approvals.

Willumsen Grieg noted, “Following the transaction, Rogaland will remain the cornerstone of our operations. The region continues to deliver industry-leading results with stable growth, high survival rates, and disciplined cost control.”

In the competitive landscape of the food and drink business, these strategic decisions underscore Grieg Seafood’s commitment to navigating current food and drink consumer trends effectively.
