IDAK Food Group has expanded its acquisition strategy by securing a deal for the France-based bakery company, Onoré.
Based in Toulouse, Onoré is renowned for supplying a variety of bakery products across Europe, including pastries, desserts, and Cornish pasties. This acquisition aligns with emerging trends in the food and beverage industry, illustrating a shift towards diversified offerings in the food and drink business.
Onoré boasts well-known brands in France such as Boncolac for bakery and snacks, Mag’M macarons, and So Mochi ice cream. In the UK, Onoré produces Proper Cornish pasties and Cakesmiths cakes. The company operates five production facilities in France and two in the UK, employing over 1,000 staff, and recorded a turnover exceeding €220 million ($256.8 million) last year.
This strategic move by IDAK enhances its geographical footprint. Currently, IDAK primarily focuses on the Swiss and Italian markets, specializing in pizza, snacks, finger foods, and bakery items.
Backed by private equity firm TowerBrook Capital Partners, IDAK did not disclose the financial details of this transaction. However, a spokesperson confirmed that the deal involves acquiring a majority interest from Waterland Private Equity and the remainder from the Onoré management team. Regulatory approval is pending, and the deal is expected to close within the current half of the year.
IDAK CEO Christof Lehmann stated, “IDAK and Onoré complement each other perfectly to form a unique and leading company in the premium frozen-food sector in Europe. We share common strengths such as organic growth, diversification of our channels and customer base, and strong positioning within the premium frozen-food sector.”
With several acquisitions in recent months, IDAK has achieved annual sales exceeding SFr330 million ($413.6 million), employing approximately 1,300 staff members. The latest acquisition was Sorrento Sapori e Tradizioni, an Italian pizza producer acquired last year for an undisclosed amount.
In early 2025, IDAK also secured a deal for Swiss bakery business Kern & Sammet. Last year, IDAK made headlines by acquiring a majority stake in the Italian pizza company ProPizza through its subsidiary, Margherita. Furthermore, Romer’s Hausbäckerei joined IDAK in 2023 through a majority interest acquisition.
Upon joining the IDAK family, Onoré CEO Alexandre Vigneron expressed enthusiasm regarding the partnership: “We are delighted with this transaction, which would give Onoré a new international dimension. We share the same DNA as IDAK and look forward to starting to build our common future. Together, we will continue to craft signature products inspired by European cuisines in bakery, pastry, and snacks.”
This acquisition underscores the growing importance of understanding food and drink consumer trends as companies strategize for expansion within competitive markets.
