Grupo CRM, a Brazilian chocolate company, to be acquired by Nestlé for majority stake Food and Beverage Business

Nestlé, the multinational food and beverage company known for its popular KitKat brand, has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Grupo CRM, a high-end chocolate business based in Brazil. The deal, which involves the purchase of the shareholding from private-equity firm Advent International, marks Nestlé’s entry into Brazil’s luxury chocolate market.

Grupo CRM operates a direct-to-consumer model, with over 1,000 chocolate boutiques under its Kopenhagen and Brasil Cacau brands. While the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, local newspapers estimate the deal to be worth around 3 billion to 4.5 billion reais ($602.7m to $904.1m).

By acquiring Grupo CRM, Nestlé aims to tap into the super-premium fine chocolate segment and expand its presence in Brazil’s high-end gifting industry. The Swiss giant intends to leverage its global research and development capacity to drive innovation and growth within the business.

Renata Moraes Vichi, the current CEO of Grupo CRM, will continue to lead the company’s operations and remain a minority shareholder. Vichi’s extensive experience within the chocolate industry has been instrumental in building and expanding Grupo CRM over the past 25 years.

With a strong online presence and a portfolio of premium brands like Língua de Gato, Nhá Benta, Lajotinha, and Chumbinho, Grupo CRM has established itself as a key player in Brazil’s chocolate market. The acquisition allows Nestlé to further deepen its confectionery presence in the country and offer highly appreciated premium chocolates to Brazilian consumers.

In addition to this deal, Nestlé recently announced its plans to invest 2.7 billion reais ($550.8m) into its chocolate and biscuit operations in Brazil by 2026, triple the amount invested in the past four years. This significant investment highlights Nestlé’s commitment to the Brazilian market and its strategy to strengthen its position in the food and beverage industry.

This acquisition comes after Nestlé received approval to acquire Garoto, another prominent Brazilian chocolate maker, more than two decades after striking a deal in 2002. With its continuous expansion and strategic acquisitions, Nestlé solidifies its presence in Brazil and positions itself for further growth in the dynamic food and drink business.

Overall, the acquisition of Grupo CRM reinforces Nestlé’s commitment to innovation, growth, and delivering premium chocolate experiences to consumers worldwide. As the company continues to make strategic moves in the market, it remains a key player in the ever-evolving food and beverage industry.
