Flora Food Group Rebrands and Acquires U.S. Plant Upfield Food and Beverage Business

Flora Food Group, a leader in the plant-based food sector previously recognized as Upfield, has made a strategic move by acquiring a manufacturing facility in the United States.

The company, based in the Netherlands, has secured a site in Hugoton, Kansas, which is poised to become the primary hub for Flora Food Group’s cream and cream cheese products, catering to both the US and Canadian markets, as well as gradually expanding to other regions in the Americas. Meanwhile, the existing facility in New Century, Texas, will maintain its role as the US center for Flora Food Group’s butter and spreads offerings.

Jim Breach, president of Flora Food Group’s North American division, expressed enthusiasm regarding the acquisition, stating, “With the acquisition of this new facility, we are thrilled to have a unique opportunity to expand our creams business.” He further noted, “Building on the existing, state-of-the-art infrastructure and trained workforce in the local community, we look forward to welcoming more people into the Flora Food Group family while continuing to produce our kitchen and pantry essentials here in America’s heartland and throughout our broader Americas region.”

This acquisition is significant as it marks the company’s 15th manufacturing site worldwide, employing approximately 4,800 individuals. In 2023, Flora Food Group reported impressive net sales of €3.3 billion ($3.67 billion). The group’s brand portfolio includes not only Flora but also recognized names such as BlueBand, Country Crock, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, Rama, and Violife.

The recent rebranding reflects a transformative journey within the company, signifying substantial progress in various dimensions. Earlier this year, Flora Food Group also made headlines by leading a funding round for Spain’s Heura Foods, with a new capital infusion of $40 million aimed at propelling the company towards profitability and reinforcing its status as a frontrunner in the food and beverage industry trends.

In conclusion, this acquisition exemplifies Flora Food Group’s commitment to innovation and expansion within the food and drink business landscape, addressing growing food and drink consumer trends and enhancing its market presence in the plant-based sector.
