Boermarke, Prominent Dutch Dairy Company, Embracing Veganism Food and Beverage Business

Boermarke, a Netherlands-based dairy and plant-based business, has set its sights on becoming fully vegan, tapping into the food and beverage industry’s increasing focus on plant-based alternatives.

The company has decided to transfer its dairy operations to local peer Zuivelhoeve in a strategic move to streamline its operations and cater to the evolving preferences of food and drink consumers. By 2026, Boermarke aims to offer a comprehensive range of vegan products under its own brand, Vairy, or through private-label contracts, across Europe.

Enschede-based Boermarke, with over 30 years of experience in the Dutch dairy market, recognized the rising demand for plant-based options, resulting in a remarkable 800% growth in its vegan dairy production over the last three years. In response to customers’ desire for strict separation between dairy and plant-based production, the company opted for a complete transition to vegan offerings.

In 2015, Boermarke launched its plant-based brand, Vairy, with a focus on coconut yogurt. Since then, the company successfully expanded its product range to include vegan cheese and ice cream. The Vairy range already enjoys wide availability, with 80% of Dutch supermarkets and major grocery chains in Germany offering the products.

The transfer of the dairy business to Zuivelhoeve will not result in job losses, as Boermarke plans to retain its entire staff of 180 employees. These employees will continue to be involved in the growth of the Vairy brand and the production of house brands for other companies.

As Boermarke embarks on this transformation, it foresees a future as a leading producer and developer of plant-based dairy substitutes. The company remains committed to providing delicious, affordable, and sustainable alternatives to dairy products.
