Pret a Manger, the UK café chain, announced that it will be transitioning its final three branches of Veggie Pret stores back to regular Pret stores. This decision comes as the chain reports that one in three of all its main meal sales are now “veggie or vegan-friendly”.

After eight years since the launch of the Veggie Pret concept, the two stores on Broadwick Street in Soho and Great Eastern Street in London will revert to regular Pret a Manger outlets on 19th February. In Manchester, the third branch will make the change on 26th February.

Initially introduced as a one-month trial, the flagship Veggie Pret store in Soho began as a pop-up store in the summer of 2016 and eventually led to the opening of an additional nine sites.

Katherine Bagshawe, UK food and coffee director at Pret a Manger, commented on the shift, stating, “Today, one in three of all our main meal sales are veggie or vegan-friendly. Every Pret shop is a Veggie Pret shop, with new vegetarian and vegan-friendly products being added to our menu regularly.”

“Our original Meatless Meatball Hot Wrap was born in Veggie Pret, yet it became a top five bestseller across the whole of Pret within its first week of launching, showing us how customers across all our shops want amazing veggie food,” Bagshawe added.

This move exhibits the chain’s commitment to meeting the evolving preferences of its customers by offering a wider range of veggie and vegan options across all its locations. The decision aligns with the growing demand for plant-based menu items and the increasing popularity of vegetarian and vegan diets.

By making this transition, Pret a Manger aims to continue its success in catering to the rising demand for meat-free and plant-based dining options among its customer base.
