Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Healthy Living Programme supports Scottish independent retailers to offer healthy choices, increase sales, and contribute to the goal of achieving a healthy nation.
Furthermore, the Scottish Grocers’ Federation team was present on site to emphasize the role of convenience retail in vibrant and thriving communities. The healthy breakfast for the event was provided by Dennis, Colleen, and Sophie from Premier Broadway Store in Oxgangs, local retailers who deserve recognition for their contribution.
Jenni Minto, who witnessed the positive impact of the Healthy Living Programme firsthand, expressed her satisfaction with the initiative’s efforts to support and encourage healthier choices within local communities. The programme director, Kathryn Neil, applauds the tremendous success of HLP and expresses sincere gratitude to the Minister for joining the experience with the pupils.
Our outreach, which specifically involves youngsters and primary schools, plays a crucial role in transforming habits and highlighting the importance of a healthy diet. Through our events, we have had the privilege of engaging with over 25,000 students, making a significant impact.
Breakfast, often deemed the most important meal of the day, is a perfect opportunity to demonstrate that children can enjoy a nutritious meal while having fun. Consequently, our healthy suggestions have not only proven beneficial but have also been well received among kids.
Luke McGarty, SGF’s head of policy and public affairs, takes immense pride in the diligent work carried out by the SGF HLP team. Witnessing the minister interact with children as they enjoyed a wholesome breakfast was a gratifying moment. Additionally, our heartfelt thanks go out to Dennis Williams and his team for providing the healthy produce, highlighting the crucial role played by local convenience stores within their respective communities.
