Nearly five years after its original launch, one of the UK’s most popular multi-award-winning plant-based cheeses is relaunching with a new recipe. The renowned Applewood Vegan, which first hit the market in autumn 2019, will soon be available in supermarkets across the UK with an improved recipe aimed at enhancing the cheese’s texture and delivering a taste more reminiscent of dairy cheese.
When Applewood Vegan initially entered the market, its notable meltability set it apart from other plant-based cheeses, as it closely resembled the melting characteristics of dairy cheese – a feature that many consumers following a plant-based diet found appealing. In response to consumer feedback, the team behind Applewood Vegan has crafted a new recipe to further elevate the cheese’s appeal, making it even more akin to traditional dairy cheese with a creamier taste and texture.
According to blind taste tests conducted by Wirral Sensory Services, the revised Applewood Vegan recipe has been well-received by testers who praised its likeness to real cheese, superior texture, and delightful smoky taste fit for standalone enjoyment or pairing with food. Senior brand manager Ffion Davies commented on the relaunch, expressing excitement for the positive reception of the new recipe and anticipating consumer feedback upon its release.
The relaunched Applewood Vegan, now available in block and slices format, is set to hit the shelves of major UK supermarkets, including Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose, Ocado, and Morrisons. With 15 awards under its belt since the 2019 launch, the brand is optimistic that the new recipe will further solidify its position and potentially pave the way for additional accolades.
