The charity, which has received support from members of the convenience and wholesale sector since 2015, served as the official charity at this year’s awards ceremony, held on Tuesday night.
Sarah Tavener, head of philanthropy at MAG, expressed her gratitude, stating, “We collected an impressive £2,061 during the event. This outcome is truly remarkable, and I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to all those involved.”
Tavener added, “This level of support is invaluable to MAG as it enables us to continue our mission of clearing landmines and unexploded bombs from conflict-affected communities worldwide.”
MAG (the Mines Advisory Group), a global humanitarian organization headquartered in Manchester, played a significant role in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997.
Over the past three decades, MAG has dedicated itself to locating and neutralizing mines, cluster munitions, and unexploded bombs in war-affected areas.
The retail industry has been a steadfast supporter of MAG since 2015, organizing a series of charity cycle rides aptly named “Bikes Against Bombs.” Collectively, these events have raised over £1 million.
Debbie Robinson, Chief Executive at Central Co-op and a long-standing MAG supporter, was also recognized at the awards ceremony with the Outstanding Achievement Award.
Robinson conveyed her gratitude, remarking, “Thank you for your unwavering support of MAG. The funds raised have had a tremendous impact and made a significant difference.”
The next edition of the Bikes Against Bombs cycle ride is scheduled to take place in Vietnam in 2024.
